Contemporary Story: Recognizing and Receiving Help

One day a man fell quite ill. He went to the hospital and had some tests.  After awhile his doctor came to his room with the results. The doctor looked at the man's chart and shook his head.  He said, "Well, it's not good news.  I think you have two hours to live."  The man was of course in shock but he asked to be alone.  The man prayed to Great Spirit and said he didn't want to die now.  Great Spirit said, "Don't worry, you are going to be fine." The man was relieved, of course.

A few minutes later an Oncologist entered the hospital room with a therapy to offer.  The man said no, he would be fine.  The Oncologist reluctantly, left.  A few more minutes passed and into the room walked a Priest.  The man said, "Thank you, Father, but I am going to be fine." The Priest also left.  Some more time passed and the man was visited by an herbalist, a Medicine Singer and many other practitioners.

Two hours later, the man was dead.  He was in shock.  He walked up to Great Spirit and asked what happened? "You said I was going to be fine!"  Great Spirit replied, "Who do you think sent the help?"
